As we enter a new era for Autodesk Platform Services, we’re unlocking greater opportunities and flexibility for innovators across design and make industries. Today, Autodesk is updating the Terms of Use (TOU), APS Terms of Service (APS Terms), and Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) to support the rollout of our new business model—designed to accelerate connected workflows, agentic automation, and customer empowerment. These updates reflect our continuing commitment to maintaining legal terms that are responsive to our business needs and industry trends. We are providing a high-level overview of the terms updates to help our customers understand how our terms work. These updates do not generally change any of our commitments or policies — they solely explain things more clearly and answer common questions that arise from time to time.
Understanding the Terms—What each governs:
- Terms of Use (TOU): These are the terms that apply to all subscribers who may install or access Autodesk products or services. These terms cover account creation, license and access rights, and other customer rights and responsibilities.
- APS Terms of Service (APS Terms): These apply to developers and partners using Autodesk Platform Services (APS) APIs to build commercial applications. The APS Terms set out rights and obligations for API access and usage, and for participation in the Autodesk Developer Network (ADN) Program. Prior to this update, APS and ADN were governed by separate terms; they are now combined for clarity.
- Acceptable Use Policy (AUP): These explain what is and isn’t allowed when using Autodesk products and services. The AUP covers responsible use and restrictions on activities like data scraping, data mining, and reverse engineering.
What hasn’t changed:
- Your core rights and protections remain: Data rights, privacy, and subscription entitlements are unchanged. And as always, you own your content.
- Our commitment to transparency: Autodesk continues to evolve our terms in step with technology and business changes, always with clarity and customer trust at the center.
What’s changed:
- Flexible, predictable access: Terms now address new payment options for APIs, including billing in arrears and paying with tokens.
- Unified developer experience: APS Terms now consolidate the terms for the Autodesk Developer Network (ADN) Program and the APS developer community, creating a single set of terms for all developers.
- Clarity for API use: We’ve clarified how APIs may be used for commercial applications and internal business use, helping to enable future agentic workflows.
- AUP clarifications for the agentic era:
-
- We’ve clarified that you may train on your models and data, provided you do not use Autodesk offerings to copy or reverse engineer Autodesk products.
-
- We’re clarifying that restrictions on data scraping and data mining apply to Autodesk content and content we license, not to customer or developer content.
- We have also added new terms within the Terms of Use that cover other new offerings unrelated to the changes occurring within Autodesk Platform Services.
Why This Matters:
The updates to our Terms of Use, APS Terms, and Acceptable Use Policy are part of Autodesk’s ongoing commitment to flexible, predictable platform access. We realize people may use LLMs to create summaries of our terms. We are all in on AI tools but would emphasize that the terms themselves should be reviewed to address specific questions.
