PATH kicks off global design challenge with support from Autodesk Foundation

This June, the Autodesk Foundation and PATH, a global health organization, are reaching out to individuals around the world to advance the design of a lifesaving device, the RELI (Reusable Electricity-free Low-cost Infusion) delivery system, created with the goal of bringing access to health within reach for everyone.

Anyone can participate. Join the PATH Global Design Challenge now.

Ensuring quality health care is available to everyone requires access to appropriate medical equipment. In the world’s most challenging places, access to medical equipment is severely limited. The cost of equipment, unreliable power supply, and a shortage of trained medical professionals further impedes access, highlighting the need for innovative designs to address these barriers.

This challenge will crowdsource design ideas for the ergonomics and aesthetics of this lifesaving infusion pump, which provides safe delivery of vital medications, fluids and nutrition.

With the interior functionality of the device developed, Autodesk and PATH are turning to the global community for ideas that address the shape and materials of the exterior shell as well as the design and placement of visual displays, components, and interactive parts.

“The goal of our work at PATH is to get to impact; we look for great ideas that can lead to appropriate, sustainable products that can be used around the globe. The Global Design Challenge provides a forum for people to share these great ideas,” said Mike Eisenstein, PATH’s Product Development Shop Manager.

Rooted in tech, PATH is a cutting-edge, science-based, design-led organization that accelerates innovation to improve global health, especially for women and children in low-resource settings. PATH’s engineers use Autodesk tools in collaboration with stakeholders around the world to design and make products that are as efficient, inexpensive, and usable as possible.
