Autodesk has signed a three-year agreement with BANDAI NAMCO Studios. Together they are creating a system that lets game development software be managed centrally and used across BANDAI NAMCO Studios’ global development sites. This marks the first time the companies are working together in Japan.
BANDAI NAMCO Studios is a leading global publisher and developer of interactive content — including all major video game consoles, iOS, mobile and online. The company is known for creating and publishing many of the industry’s top video game franchises, including PAC-MAN, Tekken.
BANDAI NAMCO Studios will be able to flexibly use software needed for game development, including Autodesk® Maya®, Autodesk 3ds Max®, and Autodesk AutoCAD®, at its sites in and outside Japan. Autodesk will form a special-purpose technology team to provide BANDAI NAMCO Studios with services, including support for software utilization, project management and customization of software features.
Game development is rapidly changing. Demands for higher quality assets, faster delivery, larger scale, and lower cost necessitate efficient business processes across large teams. Constraints on the number, type, and location of artists and developers often pose challenges on resource allocation.
Mr. Yoshiaki Okano, General Manager – Frontier Technology, Entertainment Technology at BANDAI NAMCO Studios, said, “We have created hit game titles over the years and Autodesk Maya and Autodesk 3ds Max software have brought a lot to create detailed and visually stunning characters and environments. As the gaming industry has become a worldwide operation, it is our role to provide superior technology systems for our creative engineers and project management. Our engineers are excited about accessing a broader portfolio of Autodesk software. By collaborating with Autodesk, we will be able to enhance the creative work environment, while better managing projects.” Yoshiaki Okano, General Manager Frontier Technology, Entertainment Technology, BANDAI NAMCO Studios.
BANDAI NAMCO Studios determined that unified management of its development resources, including offshore sites, would provide flexibility and optimize global development resources for the creation of high-quality games. The company plans to use the collaboration to broaden the use of Autodesk software beyond game development into related video production and hardware design.
BANDAI NAMCO Studios will be able to flexibly utilize software needed for game development, including Autodesk® Maya®, Autodesk 3ds Max®, and Autodesk AutoCAD®, at its sites in and outside Japan under this agreement. Meanwhile, Autodesk will form a special-purpose technology team to provide BANDAI NAMCO Studios with services, including support for software utilization, project management and customization of software features.
