← The Future of How Things Get Made: Harnessing the Power of Artificial Intelligence for the Next Frontier of Design
Generative design of a parametric chair. Autodesk is developing software that can rapidly sort through the innumerable ways to create a single product—a chair, for instance. Just input the parameters: four legs, an elevated seat, weight requirements, minimal materials…and an algorithm will generate thousands of options. The software looks for the most efficient way to produce the design, and in short order the program will offer thousands more ways to build a perfectly honed seat. Computational design doesn’t replace human creativity—the program aids and accelerates the process, expanding the limits of design and imagination.
