Autodesk’s Sustainability Leaders.<\/p><\/div> Achieving sustainability is\u00a0a\u00a0challenge that can only be won through collaboration.\u00a0At Autodesk, this means involving everyone, not just\u00a0people with \u201csustainability\u201d in their titles.\u00a0Our sales and customer success teams have big roles to play too. They\u00a0work together to identify\u00a0our\u00a0customers\u2019 desired business outcomes and the tools needed to achieve them. As we shared in our annual\u00a0Impact Report<\/a>, more and more\u00a0companies\u00a0are aligning their growth\u00a0goals with the United\u00a0Nations\u00a0Sustainable Development\u00a0Goals<\/a>.\u00a0And\u00a0Autodesk\u00a0acts as a strategic partner,\u00a0bringing forward\u00a0solutions to\u00a0help\u00a0deliver\u00a0those\u00a0results. <\/p>\n

Last year,\u00a0we launched Making the Future, an\u00a0incentive program that rewards Autodesk sales\u00a0and customer success\u00a0teams for helping customers achieve their sustainability\u00a0goals. We also initiated the Sustainability Leader\u00a0GOAL\u00a0Program, which helps our\u00a0employees develop the knowledge and skills to support customers on their sustainability journeys.\u00a0I recently sat down with\u00a0Senior\u00a0Sustainability\u00a0Success\u00a0Manager Tony\u00a0Saracino\u00a0to chat about these programs. Here are some highlights from our conversation. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s become imperative for us to lead our industry and have a broader view that goes beyond profit, to also consider the environment and social good.\u201d \u2013 Luz Mar\u00eda V\u00e1squez G\u00f3mez, Senior Manager, Latin America Technical Sales <\/div>\n

Steve:\u00a0<\/strong>Tony, the feedback\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0gotten on the Making the Future program has been overwhelmingly positive. Folks really enjoy the team environment, and they like\u00a0recognition\u00a0for\u00a0being\u00a0trusted advisors in\u00a0a very important\u00a0space.\u00a0This\u00a0connection to purpose\u00a0matters to our employees.\u00a0What\u2019s\u00a0some of the feedback\u00a0you\u2019ve\u00a0received? Tony:\u00a0<\/strong>What\u2019s\u00a0interesting about this contest is that\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0not just our biggest customers with winning projects.\u00a0We\u2019ve\u00a0seen it from all areas because we have so many people adding value. Our\u00a0salespeople speak to\u00a0customers about\u00a0sustainability in a meaningful\u00a0way;\u00a0Technical\u00a0sales\u00a0understand how to implement solutions;\u00a0and customer success teams really understand the organizations we partner with.\u00a0As you said, Steve, the team approach is critical to sustainability. Steve:\u00a0<\/strong>It\u2019s\u00a0a total team sport. This really is not a\u00a0sales\u00a0competition.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0a sustainability competition, and\u00a0everyone\u2019s\u00a0in the game.\u00a0The big standout for 2020 was\u00a0Katrina\u00a0Urbanik\u00a0AS, which also won an\u00a0AEC\u00a0Excellence Award<\/a>\u00a0last year.\u00a0They built an entirely\u00a0self-sufficient\u00a0floating island\u00a0that\u00a0generates\u00a0its own\u00a0energy and\u00a0grows\u00a0its\u00a0own food.\u00a0The\u00a0structure is\u00a0beautiful and\u00a0environmentally clean.\u00a0And this project met five of the\u00a0UN\u00a0Sustainable Development Goals.\u00a0They covered so much of what the program is about.

\"Self-sufficient

This\u00a0self-sufficient urban development in Norway includes flexible housing, recreation, innovative greenhouses, large sloping roofs covered in solar panels, and workshops filled with 3D printers.<\/p><\/div> Tony:\u00a0<\/strong>And\u00a0it spanned so much of what Autodesk promises to our customers.\u00a0They\u00a0had to prefabricate a lot of\u00a0building components\u00a0to ship to this remote location.\u00a0It checked\u00a0boxes across\u00a0the entire project lifecycle, from design to construction.\u00a0It really\u00a0showcases how\u00a0Autodesk\u2019s\u00a0complete platform can help customers with their sustainability goals, as well as their day-to-day business. <\/p>\n

Steve:\u00a0<\/strong>You obviously know a lot about the Sustainability Leader\u00a0GOAL\u00a0Program. How would you say this program engages\u00a0our teams\u00a0to drive more sustainable\u00a0outcomes for customers? Tony:<\/strong>\u00a0Applying sustainability goals to projects requires deep knowledge. We need our\u00a0sales\u00a0and customer success\u00a0teams to be experts\u00a0in this area.\u00a0This program\u00a0is\u00a0a skills-building pathway\u00a0that\u00a0gives\u00a0our\u00a0employees\u00a0the opportunity to gain this essential knowledge. And\u00a0it\u2019s voluntary. In the past nine months,\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0had over 200 people\u00a0participate.\u00a0One key takeaway is that\u00a0sales\u00a0and customer success\u00a0people learn best from each other.\u00a0We had\u00a0a team in India helping a team in Brazil.\u00a0They were able to\u00a0talk about their approach\u00a0and\u00a0objectives.\u00a0They\u00a0could\u00a0share\u00a0the solutions and how they\u00a0best\u00a0resonated with their customers.\u00a0This program is\u00a0starting to give them a new language to approach their customers with.

\u201cI am proud to serve as an Autodesk Sustainability Ambassador in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Sustainability is woven into Autodesk’s\u00a0DNA,\u00a0and we are fortunate to have the privilege of equipping others to do “more, better, with less”.\u201d\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Aaron Vorwerk,\u00a0Senior Manager, Building Technical Marketing<\/p><\/div> Steve:<\/strong>\u00a0Our\u00a0sales\u00a0and customer success\u00a0teams need to feel secure in their own sustainability knowledge before they can have those conversations with customers.\u00a0Folks will hesitate to bring up areas that they\u00a0don’t\u00a0feel comfortable talking about.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0so encouraging to see our people building this confidence. Tony:\u00a0<\/strong>And Steve, you\u2019re\u00a0leading by example and telling people that impact is important in their jobs. It resonates with them.\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0made my\u00a0team\u2019s job\u00a0so much easier.\u00a0We\u00a0can\u00a0connect with people\u00a0who\u00a0are already aware\u00a0that these values are important. Steve:<\/strong>\u00a0Thanks, Tony. People want to feel like they can make an impact, beyond just financial metrics. We have amazingly talented people on our team because they care about the big picture. Our customers are going to rely on us more and more for the toolsets and guidance to reach those sustainable outcomes.
