The celebration culminates in International Women\u2019s Day on Friday, March 8, and this year\u2019s theme is \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.unwomen.org\/en\/news\/stories\/2018\/10\/announcer-iwd-2019-theme\">think equal, build smart, innovate for change<\/a>.\u201d This week\u2019s picks remind us to support and celebrate women all year long. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"padding-bottom: 16px;\"><strong>She\u2019s Been There. <\/strong>Marilyn Grabowski built her own successful construction business and shares seven things she\u2019s learned the hard way over her 17 years in the industry. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/article\/327170\">Entrepreneur<\/a> has the list. Pepper Construction\u2019s Jennifer Suerth and our own Alli Scott discuss the challenges and opportunities for women in construction with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/bonniemarcus\/2018\/12\/19\/building-a-career-in-construction-the-challenges-and-opportunities\/#13e96e712fc1\">Forbes<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-bottom: 16px;\"><strong>Joining Forces. <\/strong>Construction isn\u2019t the only field working hard to increase women in its ranks. Manufacturing is too, and the timing couldn\u2019t be better. As the two industries increasingly converge, there\u2019s an opportunity to rethink the way both industries operate. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.machinedesign.com\/community\/5-ways-increase-number-women-manufacturing-industry\">Machine Design<\/a> offers five ways to boost the presence of women in manufacturing, and Forbes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/allysonkapin\/2019\/02\/20\/50-women-led-startups-who-are-crushing-tech\/\">recently published<\/a> a list of 50 women-led start-ups that are thriving, many of them in manufacturing (Fetch Robotics) and construction (Senseware).<\/li>\n<li style=\"padding-bottom: 16px;\"><strong>Hard Hatted Woman.<\/strong> In the first feature-length <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hardhattedwoman.com\">documentary<\/a> about women in construction trades, five tradeswomen share their personal stories. Rice.<\/p><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Next Gen. <\/strong>Inspiring young girls to pursue an interest in making and building is just as important as supporting and empowering women in the field today. Each year, Miron construction hosts its <a href=\"https:\/\/miron-construction.com\/build-like-a-girl\/\">Build Like a Girl<\/a> event where 7<sup>th<\/sup> through 10<sup>th<\/sup> grade girls visit a temporary job site and get their hands dirty trying out masonry, carpentry, concrete work, and equipment operation. <a href=\"https:\/\/girlswithdrills.com\/workshops\">#GirlsWithDrills<\/a> hosts beginners woodworking workshops led by women, designed to give young people confidence in making, and <a href=\"https:\/\/girlsgarage.org\/about\/\">Girls Garage<\/a> offers summer and after-school programs for girls ages 9-17 to promote creativity, grit and curiosity through hands-on building led by an all-female staff.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Build Like A Girl 2018 | Miron Construction\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HOVR_p46pWk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe> Video courtesy of Miron Construction. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>For Women, By Women.<\/strong> A former women\u2019s prison in Manhattan is being redesigned to become <a href=\"http:\/\/womensbuildingnyc.org\/\">The Women\u2019s Building<\/a>, a workspace and hub for social justice leaders and organizations working to drive critical change.
