Hyundai Engineering Does Its Part to Tackle this Infrastructure Challenge in Oman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Did you know that every year about 1,500 cubic kilometers of wastewater are generated globally?\u00a0 That equals, according to a recent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unep.or.jp\/ietc\/ws\/news-apr10\/S1_2_MrDavidOsborn.pdf\">report for the United Nations Environment Program<\/a> (UNEP), six times more than the water existing in all the rivers on the planet \u2013 equal to about 600 million Olympic-size swimming pools. Processing that huge volume of wastewater is a massive infrastructure challenge.\u00a0 And with the world\u2019s growth in urban populations ever on the rise, it is driving the use of advanced technologies to create the most efficient and innovative wastewater treatment facilities. A stellar example can be found in the design of a new wastewater treatment and recycling plant in Seeb, Muscat, Oman.\u00a0\u00a0 Designed by South Korea-based <a href=\"https:\/\/eng.hec.co.kr\/main.asp\">Hyundai Engineering Company (HEC)<\/a> the project is remarkable for several reasons.\u00a0 First, it reflects HEC\u2019s move from a 2D design approach to the adoption of an advanced 3D model-based design process for industrial plant design.\u00a0 When the company was awarded work on the A\u2019Seeb Wastewater Treatment Plant it recognized the project as the perfect opportunity to pilot a new Building Information Modeling (BIM)-based design workflow. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"asset-img-link\" href=\"\/app\/uploads\/autodesk\/6a017c3334c51a970b01a3fcc1119b970b-pi\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"asset asset-image at-xid-6a017c3334c51a970b01a3fcc1119b970b image-full img-responsive\" title=\"1\" src=\"\/app\/uploads\/autodesk\/6a017c3334c51a970b01a3fcc1119b970b-800wi\" alt=\"1\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Wastewater treatment plant model created using Autodesk Plant Design Suite.\u00a0 Image courtesy of Hyundai Engineering.<\/em><\/p>\n<p> Second, the HEC project demonstrates how leading design firms can apply the full range of resources offered by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/suites\/plant-design-suite\/overview\">Autodesk Plant Design Suite<\/a>. HEC recognized that the suite\u2019s compatible design and modeling tools would help improve multi-discipline collaboration.\u00a0 Also, its visualization tools could be used to produce realistic imagery, like the image shown above, that would help the company communicate more easily with its client and other stakeholders. Over the course of its work on the plant, HEC used various tools in the suite. For example, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/autodesk-autocad-plant-3d\/overview\">AutoCAD Plant 3D<\/a> software simplified the modeling of pipeline, and helped all parties involved stay up-to-date by enabling engineers to directly exchange basic data in the 3D models and drawings. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"asset-img-link\" href=\"\/app\/uploads\/autodesk\/6a017c3334c51a970b01a51170da88970c-pi\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"asset asset-image at-xid-6a017c3334c51a970b01a51170da88970c image-full img-responsive\" title=\"2\" src=\"\/app\/uploads\/autodesk\/6a017c3334c51a970b01a51170da88970c-800wi\" alt=\"2\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Steel Shop Drawing using AutoCAD Structural Detailing. Image courtesy of Hyundai Engineering.<\/em><\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/autodesk-navisworks-family\/overview\">Autodesk Navisworks Manage<\/a> software was also used to integrate designs created with various applications and produce a visualization of the integrated model that was used to detect problems early in the design stage of the project. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"asset-img-link\" href=\"\/app\/uploads\/autodesk\/6a017c3334c51a970b01a73d7c18c0970d-pi\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"asset asset-image at-xid-6a017c3334c51a970b01a73d7c18c0970d image-full img-responsive\" title=\"3\" src=\"\/app\/uploads\/autodesk\/6a017c3334c51a970b01a73d7c18c0970d-800wi\" alt=\"3\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Autodesk Navisworks helped monitor the whole project\u2019s progress.\u00a0 <\/em><em>Image courtesy of Hyundai Engineering.<\/em><\/p>\n<p> With Autodesk Plant Design Suite and its BIM-based workflow, Hyundai Engineering was able to not only deliver the A\u2019Seeb Wastewater Treatment Plant project within budget and on schedule; the company also improved efficiency both in design and communication. Based on these results, the firm is looking forward to implementing their new BIM design process on future projects. \u201cHyundai Engineering\u2019s aim was to ensure consistency and quality of 3D design data involved in the plant project.
