\"\" When it comes to the <\/span>AEC<\/span> industry,<\/span> projects <\/span>come in all shapes and sizes<\/span>.<\/span> S<\/span>o<\/span> does the innovative use of technology<\/span>\u2014<\/span>whether it\u2019s for a<\/span>n arena<\/span>, a bridge, <\/span>a metro line, <\/span>or a mixed-use development. <\/span>That\u2019s why <\/span>Autodesk\u2019s <\/span>AEC Excellence Awards <\/span>honor the small, medium, and large-sized projects for infrastructure<\/span> design<\/span>, building design, and construction <\/span>that are <\/span>making <\/span>an impact with<\/span> advanced<\/span> approaches and pioneering achievements.<\/span> They\u2019re<\/span> reflective of how far we\u2019ve come and inspire us all to do even more.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span> <\/p>\n

This award recognizes a person who <\/span>i<\/span>s leading, changing, and transforming the design and\/or construction process in a positive way.<\/span> Congratulations to <\/span>Amr <\/span>Raafat<\/span>, Director <\/span>of Virtual Design and Construction <\/span>at Windover Construction. INFRASTRUCTURE DESIGN<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Infrastructure Design \u2013 Large Project (over $500 <\/span><\/b>M<\/span><\/b>illion)<\/span><\/b><\/h4>\n

Winning project:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0\u00dcmraniye<\/span>-Ata\u015fehir-<\/span>G\u00f6ztepe<\/span> Metro Line<\/span> <\/a>G\u00fclermak<\/span> Nurol<\/span> Makyol<\/span> Joint Venture<\/span> and <\/span>Y\u00fcksel<\/span> Proje<\/span>\u00a0<\/span> This metro line <\/span>in Istanbul, Turkey will stretch to a total length of 13<\/span> km and <\/span>connect <\/span>11<\/span> different transit<\/span> stations. <\/span>By using <\/span>BIM technology<\/span>, the team achieved a<\/span> 16% cost savings <\/span>across <\/span>the whole project. T<\/span>unnelling was also much more efficient: 35% of cable loss and 15% of traction power transformer loss was avoided during tunnelling.\u202f<\/span> <\/p>\n

Winning project:<\/strong> Istanbul Rail System Design Services – Phase 1 <\/a>Y\u00fcksel Proje With phase one of a metro line in Istanbul, Turkey that will eventually cover 60 km in total,\u00a0it is an example of how BIM\u00a0software\u00a0and modern construction technology can\u00a0seamlessly\u00a0integrate and coordinate diverse disciplines, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and more. \"\" <\/p>\n

Infrastructure Design \u2013 Small Project (less than $100 <\/span><\/b>M<\/span><\/b>illion)<\/span><\/b><\/h4>\n

Winning project:<\/strong> Luchuan<\/span> Service Area of <\/span>Yulin<\/span>-Zhanjiang Expressway<\/span><\/a> (Guangxi Section)<\/span> Tianjin Port Engineering Design & Consulting Company Ltd. of CCCC First Harbor Engineering Company<\/span> Ltd.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span> While designing this 74.5 km four-lane expressway in China, the team used <\/span>clash detection processes<\/span> to<\/span> prevent<\/span> more than 100 potential issues, avoiding expensive rework during construction<\/span>.<\/span> \"\"<\/span><\/a> <\/p>\n

BUILDING DESIGN<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Building Design \u2013 Large Project (over $200 Million)<\/span><\/b><\/h4>\n

Winning project: <\/strong>European Spallation Source<\/span> <\/a>\u00c5F Infrastructure, <\/span>Sweco<\/span> Architects and Skanska<\/span> Sverige AB<\/span>\u00a0<\/span> Not only <\/span>one of the largest building projects in Europe, <\/span>the European Spallation Source <\/span>will be the world\u2019s most advanced and first <\/span>sustainable research facility based on the world\u2019s most powerful neutron source<\/span>. <\/span>By using Autodesk technology, t<\/span>he <\/span>team<\/span>\u2014<\/span>consisting of stakeholders from 13 countries<\/span> for the project located in Sweden<\/span>\u2014<\/span>is able to<\/span> collaborate better and achieve their goal of having as much information as possible in each model.<\/span> \"\" <\/p>\n

Building Design \u2013 Medium Project ($20 Million – $200 Million)<\/span><\/b><\/h4>\n

Winning project: <\/strong>Buildings on East Artificial Islands of Hong<\/span> Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge<\/span> <\/a>CCCC-FHDI E<\/span>ngineering Co, Ltd.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span> The<\/span> East Artificial Islands<\/span> play a key role in the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Authority operati<\/span>ons. <\/span>BIM technology <\/span>helped<\/span> th<\/span>e <\/span>project team save more than $1.1 million<\/span> and shortened<\/span> the construction process by nearly three months.<\/span> \"\"<\/a> <\/p>\n

Building Design \u2013 Small Project (Less than $20 Million)<\/span><\/b><\/h4>\n

Winning project:<\/strong> REVITalisation<\/span> for Design, Constructi<\/span>o<\/span>n, and Operations of Pre-World War Buildings<\/span> <\/a>Urban Renewal Authority & AECOM\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span> Located in <\/span>Mongkok<\/span>, Hong Kong, the project is a mix of residential and commercial veranda-style houses for redevelopment and preservation.<\/span> By <\/span>g<\/span>oing paperless<\/span> and opting for<\/span> a centralized BIM platform <\/span>developed <\/span>with <\/span>Autodesk Fo<\/span>r<\/span>ge<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>the team<\/span> saved <\/span>an incredible $250,000 in printing costs<\/span> alone<\/span>.<\/span> \"\"<\/span><\/a> <\/p>\n

Construction \u2013 Large Project (Over $500 Million)<\/span><\/b><\/h4>\n

Winning project: <\/strong>Chase Center & Warriors Mixed-Use Office an<\/span>d<\/span> Retail Development<\/span> <\/a>Mortenson | Clark, a Joint Venture<\/span>\u00a0<\/span> From the outset, integrating innovative technology was essential to the team\u2019s workflow for the $1.2 billion sports and entertainment <\/span>complex <\/span>in San Francisco, California. The team worked concurrently in a master model and established a 3D and 4D approach during the preconstruction phase.<\/span> \"\"<\/span><\/a> <\/p>\n

Construction \u2013 Medium Project ($100 Million – $500 Million)<\/span><\/b><\/h4>\n

Winning project:<\/strong> E03 Canada Court and E05 Quebec, Wembley <\/span>P<\/span>ark<\/span> <\/a>John SISK & Son<\/span>\u00a0<\/span> For a residential development in the United Kingdom, <\/span>SISK <\/span>avoided <\/span>\u00a390,000 worth of concrete rework through clash detection <\/span>processes and<\/span> achieved<\/span> a time saving<\/span>s<\/span> of 35% on their <\/span>quality assurance<\/span> by moving <\/span>to BIM and <\/span>away from paper.<\/span> \"\"<\/span><\/a> <\/p>\n

Construction \u2013 Small Project (Less than $100 million)<\/span><\/b><\/h4>\n

Winning project:<\/strong>\u00a0CAN<\/span>V<\/span>AS<\/span> <\/a>Windover Construction, Inc.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span> CANVAS is an upscale apartment community covering 153,000 square feet in Beverly, Massachusetts. T<\/span>he team used modular construction techniques t<\/span>o address the site constraints and to expedite the process<\/span>, resulting in completion three months earlier than would be expected <\/span>by<\/span> using conventional construction methods<\/span>.<\/span> \"\"<\/span><\/a> <\/p>\n
