And\u00a0this is not just a Bay Area issue, lack of affordable housing is a challenge worldwide. It\u2019s one of the key capacity challenges we\u2019ve highlighted where technology and new processes can create new opportunities for doing things better. <span data-contrast=\"auto\">Our<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> global population <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">is <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">expected to <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">grow by nearly 30 percent in the next 30 years, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">clos<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ing<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> in on 10 billion people by 2050<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. With 75 percent expected to live in cities, w<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">e need to build <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">more housing quickly and within the <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">fundamental limitations of the planet<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/redshift\/building-the-future\/\">13,000 buildings<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">per day <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">will need to be built <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">accommodate<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> this rapid growth<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. Today we announced our investment in Factory_OS, a company that is dramatically improving the way to design and build housing that is more affordable.<\/strong> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Factory_OS Wants to Build Your Next Apartment in a Factory\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_Lp30WgcFIY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe> <span data-contrast=\"auto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/factoryos.com\/\">Factory_OS<\/a> is constructing <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">multi-family housing<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> through an industrialized construction model. With this strategic investment, Autodesk is supporting the build out of Factory_OS&#8217; Factory Floor Learning Center, a space dedicated to education and research on industrialized construction and changes needed in public policy to optimize its benefits. This work will be led by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ternercenter.berkeley.edu\/\">Terner\u00a0Center for Housing Innovation<\/a>. The investment also establishes a team to scope and plan for a new Rapid Response Factory, a factory setting using state-of-the-art factory automations to meet the demand of quick turnaround housing following natural disasters and emergencies. Building on Factory_OS\u2019 existing use of our tools, we\u2019ll work together to identify new software collaborations to streamline the design, fabrication, and supply chain management of offsite construction. <span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Factory_OS<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> was started with scalability in mind,\u201d said Rick Holliday, CEO, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Factory_OS<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. \u201cChanging the way housing is built requires an evolution in everything from how workers are trained to the methods used in order to ensure increased productivity and therefore lower costs and time-to-market. They<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> provide end-to-end training in the full spectrum of the industrialized construction process taking place within factory walls. In addition to on-site reskilling opportunities, the work is steadier and comes with competitive wages, vacation time<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> predictable schedules<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> and <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">shorter <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">commutes.
