This nonpartisan initiative aims to identify ways that we can address challenges in the workforce due to increases in automation and emerging technologies. The initiative provides actionable policies and interventions\u00a0for US policymakers at the federal, state, and local levels, thereby advancing the national dialogue around the future of work. New technologies\u00a0and increased automation are impacting workers and businesses today. These trends may bring dramatic changes to the labor market in the\u00a0years ahead. Rather than waiting to react to future disruptions, it is critical to understand the challenge and develop solutions that address the changes\u00a0transforming the U.S. economy. We are eager to drive the dialogue forward by contributing to the nascent knowledge base that will help workers succeed in the age of automation. <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3416\" src=\"https:\/\/adsknews.autodesk.com\/app\/uploads\/2018\/06\/25SlV3tW_400x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"243\" height=\"243\" srcset=\"https:\/\/adsknews.autodesk.com\/app\/uploads\/2018\/06\/25SlV3tW_400x400.jpg 243w, https:\/\/adsknews.autodesk.com\/app\/uploads\/2018\/06\/25SlV3tW_400x400-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 243px) 100vw, 243px\" \/> The Aspen Institute\u2019s Future of Work Initiative focuses on policy solutions at the federal, state, and local levels to: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Improve economic security for both traditional and independent workers<\/li>\n<li>Expand investment in and access to effective education and training programs<\/li>\n<li>Reduce pressure on businesses to prioritize short-term profits and encourage investment in long-term value creation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> &nbsp; Our initial investment in workforce development was announced at AU Las Vegas last fall. The Autodesk Foundation launched a <a href=\"http:\/\/news.autodesk.com\/2017-11-14-Autodesk-Moves-to-Upskill-Industry-Workforce-to-Thrive-in-the-Age-of-Automation\">new initiative<\/a>\u00a0with\u00a0Village Capital\u00a0to catalyze ventures using automation and machine learning tools to positively impact workers. Since announcing our partnership last November, we received dozens of applications from startups using AI to help people succeed in the new era of automation. From the ten companies that joined us, three winners were chosen and awarded funding and mentoring by Autodesk executives and other leading technology companies.
